New in Speech2Text: simpler uploads and better transcript review
This update brings:
- A clearer file overview
- A combined upload and transcription workflow
- New tools for reviewing recordings and editing transcripts and subtitles.
A clearer overview of your files
The redesigned My files table brings file details and actions together. See the output type, creation and modification dates, scheduled deletion date, and current status at a glance.
Open completed results with Edit, or select files to export or delete.
Upload and start transcription in one step
You can now choose your files and transcription settings in the same window. Select the language, choose Transcript or Subtitles, adjust any additional options, and click Upload.
Each file is automatically queued for transcription after uploading. There is no separate step to start the job. Processing begins when capacity is available.
You can select up to five files at a time. The upload window shows the maximum file size supported by the service.
Keep working while files upload
Uploads continue in the background while you visit other pages within Speech2Text in the same browser tab. Return to My files to follow upload progress and processing status.
This means that you can now edit subtitles or do other tasks while new files are uploading.
Keep the browser tab open until the transfer finishes and avoid refreshing the tab during the upload.
Jump to word and highlighting
Word timestamps connect the text to the recording, making it easier to locate and check individual passages.
- Jump to a word: click a word to move the player to its position in the recording.
- Follow the spoken text: karaoke-style highlighting shows the current word during playback.
Review uncertain words with surrounding audio
The new Review words workspace helps you focus on words the transcription model is less confident about. These words are also marked with an orange wavy underline in the text.
Use Confidence below to adjust which words are included. A higher threshold includes more words; a lower threshold narrows the list.
Select a word or use the navigation arrows, then:
- Click Listen to play the word with up to two seconds of surrounding audio on either side. Playback stops at the end of the excerpt.
- Check the text and make any necessary corrections.
- Click Reviewed to mark that occurrence as checked and move to the next word.
Review progress is remembered for you on that transcription. Marking a word as reviewed does not change its text or confidence score.
A low confidence score is a prompt to check a word—not confirmation that it is wrong.
Split text at the cursor
Use Split at cursor to divide a caption or transcript segment at a word boundary.
Place the cursor between words and click the button.
Preview subtitles on the video
Enable Preview subtitles to see the captions overlaid on the video while reviewing the recording.
The preview reflects edits, including changes you have not yet saved, so you can check wording and timing before exporting. Use Save to keep your changes.
Find and replace repeated text
The Find & replace workspace brings search and correction tools together. Navigate through matches, use Case sensitive or Exact word to refine your search, and replace text in the current caption or across the document with Replace all.
This is useful when correcting recurring names, terminology, or repeated transcription mistakes.
A consistent caption layout
Subtitles and transcripts now share a simplified card layout, with clearer separation between text, timestamps, speaker information where applicable, and editing controls.
Updated help inside the service
The help menu now covers the complete workflow: uploading and configuring files, monitoring progress, reviewing results, and saving and exporting.
It also includes guidance on user settings, editor tools, feedback, privacy, and support. Open the question-mark icon to find the guide.
More consistent user provisioning
For administrators, this release fixes provisioning permissions and improves the consistency between provisioning simulation and the rules applied at login.
Simulate provisioning lets administrators preview how rules would affect a hypothetical account without changing any accounts. The results show matching rules and expected actions, such as account activation or group assignment, while taking existing account settings into account.
Monthly Quota per customer
Quotas can now be set on a customer level as well as group level. This is a NORDUnet admin setting and therefore customer quotas must be requested through Zendesk (speech2text@media.nordu.net).
Customer quotas can be set initially when creating new customers as well as changed at any time via a Zendesk request.
Users will see a warning in the upload window when nearing the limit.
Users will get an info popup if attempting to upload while quota is exceeded.
