Applies to: Zoom LTI Pro integration with Moodle 4.5
Last updated: June 26, 2025
Root Cause
This issue occurs because Moodle is not passing the user's email address correctly to Zoom after the upgrade. The Zoom LTI Pro integration relies on the instructor's email address for identity mapping. If this information is missing or not shared, Zoom cannot associate the Moodle user with a Zoom account, resulting in Error 2216.
The Moodle 4.5 update may change how LTI user data is handled, particularly affecting the transmission of user identifiers like email addresses.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, you need to enable email sharing between Moodle and Zoom:
- Log into your Moodle site as an administrator.
- Navigate to Site administration > Plugins > Activity modules > External tool > Manage tools.
- Find the Zoom LTI Pro tool, then click Edit.
- Under Privacy settings, enable:
- ✅ Share launcher's email with tool
- Save changes.
Once this setting is enabled, Moodle will correctly pass the user's email to Zoom, and the integration should function as expected.
Additional Notes
- Updating the Zoom LTI Pro app in the Zoom App Marketplace will not resolve this issue by itself.
- The problem has been reported by multiple institutions, especially in the Nordic region, following recent Moodle upgrades.
- Zoom identifies users based on email address, which acts as both the username and unique ID within the Zoom system.
Still Need Help?
If you continue to experience issues after enabling email sharing, please contact Zoom Support and provide:
- A screenshot of the error
- Moodle version
- Confirmation that "Share launcher's email with tool" is enabled
